Kathy Giannangelo, MA, RHIA, CCS, FAHIMA
Background
Kathy Giannangelo has extensive experience in the field of clinical terminologies, classification, and data standards. She performs evaluations of these systems based on the desired use cases, requirements analysis, and documentation, concept mapping to standard terminologies (e.g., SNOMED CT, ICD-10, ICD-11, CPT), legacy data conversion, and data standard migration strategies. She also provides clinical terminologies and classifications education and training. Ms. Giannangelo serves as editor of AHIMA’s Healthcare Code Sets, Clinical Terminologies, and Classifications textbook. In addition, she has authored numerous articles, created online continuing education courses on clinical terminologies, and has presented worldwide. Some of her ICD-11 work includes co-presenter at AMIA21 on “Exploring ICD-11 MMS as a Future US Standard”, AMIA22 on “Making a Case for Adoption of ICD-11 Morbidity Reporting in the US: Multiple Perspectives,” AHIMA21 on “Extracting the Value of ICD-11 MMS in the US Through Use Case Analysis” and AHIMA22 on “ICD-11: What the Research Shows Regarding ICD-10-CM Innovation,” In addition, she authored and recorded AHIMA’s on-demand webinar series “The Evolution of ICD-11” and three-module course “Introduction to ICD-11 Coding” for AHIMA.
