AHIMA is updating its approach to our international work with a regional advisory council model. The role of the AHIMA International Regional Advisory Council is to help AHIMA expand the reach of its international brand and elevate its position within the healthcare ecosystem. The council advises the international work of AHIMA by helping advance the mission and vision of AHIMA, and by helping maintain a future focus orientation for the organization.

AHIMA is seeking a broad range of diverse voices to provide guidance as to what is happening in the following regions:

  • Asia Pacific
  • Europe
  • Middle East

Desired Profile 

  • Reside and work in one of the three regional council areas 
  • Health Information knowledge and experience 
  • Experience in a field or endeavor that contributes to the disciplines that affect AHIMA and health information 
  • Maintains knowledge and understanding of emerging trends (future thinking) 
  • Capacity to focus that knowledge on decision making that benefits the organization.  
  • Ability to participate assertively in discussions and deliberation 
  • Support the mission and vision of AHIMA 
  • Proficiency in English 

Council Standards 

  • When relevant, members shall advocate on behalf of the organization; 
  • When relevant, members shall help publicize and make the work of AHIMA known; 
  • Each Regional Council shall consist of 5-7 members; 
  • All business of the Council is confidential; 
  • A member tenure is for 2 years with the possibility of a 1-year extension. A rotation policy will be in place assuring new membership on a regularly scheduled basis, providing that no more than 25% of the members shall rotate in any one year; 
  • Council members will be expected to attend quarterly virtual meetings; 
  • Conflicts of interest will be screened and avoided by all members; 
  • Member profiles are selected bring expertise, guidance and prestige to AHIMA  
  • Membership shall be broad based with members from various countries, business, academic, and professional backgrounds; 
  • A member whom for no reason provided does not attend more than two concurrent meetings will be dismissed from the council 
  • Council members will be provided complimentary global membership and registration to the annual global conference; 
  • Council membership is a volunteer position volunteer role 
  • Proficiency in English is required
