Sabu Karakka Mandapam, MAppSc, PhD

Sabu Karakka Mandapam is the founder and current president of the Health Informatics and Health Information Management Association, Kerala state, India, and also serves as a member of the International Task Force for Technology Informatics Guiding Education Reform.

He has more than 20 years of teaching and administrative experience and served in different academic and administrative positions in the health professional sector. He is involved in many HIM professional activities in India and also contributed to several global HIM professional and academic initiatives, including the AHIMA Foundation’s Global Health Workforce Council. He has significantly contributed to the standardization of HIM curriculum as an expert member in the National Curriculum Review Task force for HIM, an initiative of the government of India’s Ministry of Health and Family Welfare.

He is among the pioneers in establishing HIM education in India and was instrumental in streamlining and enhancing health professions programs at the Manipal Academy of Higher Education. He has contributed to the overall growth of the Manipal College of Health Professions by establishing new programs and international collaborations. He holds a master of applied science degree in medical documentation and a doctorate degree in health information management.
